Details
The word “Similan” in the Yawi language means “nine,” referring to the nine islands stretching across 20 kilometers, over 70 kilometers off the coast — creating one of the most pristine and breathtaking ecosystems in the region.
Although the Similan Islands are commonly identified by numbers, each one has its own Thai name: Hu Yong, Pa Yang, Pa Yan, Mieng, Ha, Payu, Hin Pusar, Similan, and Bangu.
From the lush treetops to the crystal-clear waters, the archipelago is famed for its striking landscapes — including dramatic rock formations, a soft white-sand beach, turquoise waters, and a stunning underwater world. Many travelers visit specifically for snorkeling, while divers from around the globe consider the Similan Islands one of the most spectacular dive sites in the world.
According to UNESCO rankings, the Similan Islands are among the top ten most beautiful islands on Earth. Since 1982, they have been part of Mu Ko Similan National Park.
